photo 2The National Day of Service shoe distribution in Birmingham, Alabama was a great event and great way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the Day of Service. Approximately 200 children received shoes on January 20, 2014 at the event which was hosted at the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club.

Over 80 volunteers came out and participated in the event by washing the feet of and giving a new pair of socks and shoes to children from around the community. Birmingham City Councilor Jay Roberson (Chairman of Public Improvements and Beautification), his wife Niva, and their children also participated in the shoe distribution.

photo 4Four different television news stations came to document the event and share what great things happened in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King. A special thank you to our sponsors and partners for this event: Alabama Power, Alagasco, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., BB&T, McDonald’s, and 95.7 Jamz.
