JACKSON, Miss. -- Dozens of kids got a free pair of brand new shoes just before heading off to school.

Nearly 200 kids from Village Apartments on Raymond Road got a new pair of shoes thanks to New Horizon Church International and Samaritans Feet.

The volunteers washed the feet of the children and spent about 5 to 10 minutes Saturday encouraging them while putting new socks and shoes on them.

The group wanted to make sure every kid had a pair of new shoes to help them get excited for the school year.

"It's a great feeling to see these kids get a new pair of shoes, they getting ready to go back to school for the new school year. I know right now a lot of kids these parents don't know during this economic time where they are going to get the money from," said Ronnie Crudup Jr.

The groups hope to give a life-changing message of hope to the children.
