Kiwanis Supports Samaritan’s Feet and Fila World Walk

The Kiwanis Club of Pineville-South Meck sponsored up to 60 walkers at the Fila World Walk Launch at Concord Mills Mall, Concord, N.C. on a beautiful Saturday morning, Oct. 11th.

Most of the 60 walkers were children who were members and friends of the Sterling Elementary School Girls Club directed by Ruth Hood.  (Sterling Elementary has a Terrific Kids program.)  In addition, 5 teachers from the school walked as well.  All wore their Fila Global Walk T-shirts as the posed for photos and walked.   This was the largest contingent of walkers from any organization at the 3k Walk.

The purpose of the Fila World Walk is to give recognition to the plight of all the children in the world that can not afford to buy shoes and must go barefoot.  The goal is to raise $1,000,000 and 300,000 pairs of shoes during the 300 mile journey from Charlotte to Atlanta.

Manny Ohonme, founder of Samaritan’s Feet is to walk 300 miles the back roads between Charlotte and Atlanta in his bare feet.  He finishes his walk on October 26th in Atlanta, GA. at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.  Along the way, Samaritan’s Feet conducts shoe distributions.

October 26 is more than the end of Manny Ohonme’s journey. It is a chance for all of us to join together and bring local awareness to a global need.  Kiwanians can organize a shoe distribution or a Walk in their own communities anytime throughout the year.  For more information click on: http://www.samaritansfeet.org/contact/
