On April 29th, Maestro Alfred Savia and the entire Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra paid tribute to IUPUI Coach Ron Hunter and Samaritan's Feet by performing an entire concert in their bare feet!
The highly entertaining multimedia concert featured music from the most inspiring sports movies of all time, including the themes from Rocky, Chariots of Fire, Remember the Titans, Rudy, and Hoosiers. ESPN1070 Radio hosts Bob Kravitz and Eddie White were special (barefooted) conductors for a medley of Indiana college fight songs, and Narrators Scott Hoke and Anthony Calhoun provided engaging sports commentary during the well-known Beethoven Symphony No. 5.
The highlight of the evening was a special tribute by Samaritan's Feet Founder Manny Ohonme to IUPUI Coach Ron Hunter, who helped Samaritan's Feet raise over two million pairs of shoes over the past sixteen months by coaching a game barefoot. Manny reminded the audience that when we are called to do something, we should be obedient to that call, and Coach Hunter's obedience to coach a game barefoot has and will continue to impact millions of impoverished children.
The finale for the evening was a moving performance of John Williams' Summon the Heroes coordinated with a touching photo montage of children in Africa and Peru receiving their first pair of shoes through Samaritan's Feet.
Those in attendance left the concert inspired and passionate about the mission of Samaritan's Feet. Thank you Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, for a wonderful evening of beautiful music, compelling visuals, and a moving tribute to Coach Hunter's tireless work on behalf of Samaritan's Feet!
