Florida State University Women’s Basketball Coach Sue Semrau partners with Samaritan’s Feet to wash the feet of underprivileged children

Saturday, August 8th marks an exciting event for selected youth in the Tallahassee community.  Florida State University Women’s Basketball Coach Sue Semrau has teamed with Samaritan’s Feet, Finish Line, Tallahassee Housing Authority and Calvary Chapel to distribute several hundred pairs of shoes to selected youth.

This event is in culmination of Coach Semrau coaching a game barefoot in February 2009, which raised hundreds of shoes for Samaritan’s Feet.

Samaritan’s Feet will conduct the shoe distribution at 12 pm on Saturday, August 8th at the
Pinewood Place Apartments.   The address is 2940 Grady Rd., Tallahassee, Florida.

“We are thrilled to join Coach Semrau and her team to bless the impoverished in Tallahassee with new shoes,” remarked Samaritan’s Feet Founder and President Manny Ohonme. “Coach Semrau has been a passionate spokesperson for reaching out to help others, and she is a great ambassador for Samaritan’s Feet.”

Calvary Chapel Assistant Pastor Kelly Burke said, “We are so excited to be able to team with Samaritan’s Feet to reach out to those in need within our city. Samaritan’s Feet is a great partner and is showing the love of God through their activities.”

During the shoe distribution, Coach Semrau, her staff and players, along with volunteers from Calvary Church will demonstrate servant leadership by washing the feet of each child, providing a message of hope and supplying each child with a new pair of shoes.

Sue Semrau remarked, “In these current economic times, there are many families who must choose between buying shoes for their children or buying groceries. We want to eliminate that choice for several hundred families within our community.”

ABOUT FSU COACH SUE SEMRAU
This past season was one of Florida State women’s basketball coach Sue Semrau's best. In addition to tying for first place in the ACC regular season for the first time and earning the most conference wins in school history, Semrau guided a team that set numerous other school records. Semrau's Seminoles set the program standard for most wins over top-10 opponents (three), highest national rankings (No. 11 AP poll and No. 12 USA Today/ESPN poll) and highest ACC Tournament seed (No. 2 seed). For her stellar efforts, she was named the 2009 WBCA Region 2 Coach of the Year and the 2009 ACC Coach of the Year.
In 12 seasons at the helm of the FSU women's basketball program, Semrau is used to making magic happen as she became the program's winningest coach in her ninth season in 2006. She has guided Florida State to double-digit victories in nine-straight seasons and to five straight NCAA Tournaments and six overall. Her current coaching record is 205-160. She earned her 200th career victory in Florida State's victory over then-No. 8 North Carolina on Feb 13, 2009.
