GIRL SCOUT KATIE LEE SHARES HER STORY.....

My name is Katie Lee and I am a Girl Scout in Troop 951. During the process of planning my Silver Award Project, I heard about an organization named Samaritan’s Feet. I researched the organization and learned they were a non-profit organization that collects new pairs of shoes and distributes them around the world.

I decided that I definitely wanted my project to help raise money and shoes for people in need of shoes. I began to talk with Kathy Jacobs, the founder of a service group I am a part of called, "Lucy’s Helping Hands", and started to plan out mini projects that we could do in our neighborhood.

I arranged a bake sale at our annual neighborhood yard sale in July. Each member of Lucy’s Helping Hands baked an item such as, cookies, brownies, bread, or cupcakes. We sold baked goods and lemonade for $0.50 each, and it was very successful, raising over $100.00!

Then, in August I coordinated a movie night showing the movie, “Happy Feet,” to raise more money and collect shoes. Door prizes were provided by each member. Those who attended were asked to  donate a pair of new shoes or $5.00 in exchange for popcorn and refreshments. There was a good turn out and after we completed those projects, we raised $252.00 as well as 16 pairs of new shoes.

I feel extraordinary knowing that somewhere I made a huge difference in someone’s life!
