BROCKTON – Rox manager Chris Carminucci was, to say the least, footloose for Brockton’s final game of its three-game series with the Quebec Capitales.

The first-year skipper managed and coached third base in bare feet for the entire game Thursday night to help raise money for Samaritan’s Feet.

Samaritan’s Feet is a non-profit organization which collects shoes for children around the world and operates campaigns to raise awareness and funding. One of the strategies they use is working with sports teams to draw attention to their cause. This past winter, about 400 college basketball coaches coached a game in bare feet.

The Rox players came out for the national anthem before the game in their bare feet as well.

Samaritan Feet’s director of marketing Todd Melloh threw out the first pitch for the game.

Despite the 6-2 loss to the Capitales, Carminucci could take consolation afterwards in knowing that he had helped promote Samaritan’s Feet by going shoeless.

“I would coach naked if I had to if it’s for a good cause,” Carminucci said.

Before the game, Carminucci was just as enthusiastic.

“This year has been a lot of firsts for me,” he had said beforehand. “I have the first female coach (Justine Siegal) and this. It is great, I am an open-minded guy.”

The Rox also had a “spike auction” from the start of the game until the sixth inning.

Brockton also donated $5 for each total base that they got in the game.

Carminucci feels that it is part of the team’s job to be involved in functions such as this.

“Anything that you can do to raise money for any charity,” Carminucci said. “It is vital.”
