UPDATED JUNE 3rd, 2009:  Click www.wrhi.com/content/060309-lt-governor-andre-bauer to hear Lt. Governor Bauer discussing the Samaritan's Feet Shoes of Hope project on WRHI's "The Morning Show"!

Hope Delivered To South Carolina Families
Columbia, SC (May 8, 2009)-Up to 46,000 children in the state of South Carolina will receive a pair of shoes as part of Lt. Governor Andre Bauer’s partnership with Samaritan’s Feet. The shoe recipients are students who are on free and price-reduced lunch programs.

Thousands of South Carolina residents will have their feet washed, given a new pair of shoes, and touched with a message of hope through a partnership between Samaritan’s Feet, Department of Social Services, United Way, South Carolina Department of Education and churches throughout the state. Samaritan's Feet (www.samaritansfeet.org) is a humanitarian relief organization that puts shoes on kid's feet all around the world. They will partner with hundreds of volunteers to give these children a pair of shoes. The shoe distribution will take place at various locations in all 46 counties in the state.

Join Lt Gov Bauer in touching the lives of 46,000 children by kindly making a donation. Every $5.00 touches a child.

Lt. Governor Bauer will preside over the Senate on Wednesday, May 13th in his bare feet to kick-off the program.
"I am so excited to be a part of this shoe distribution in our backyard,” said Manny Ohonme, Founder of Samaritan’s Feet. “It’s imperative that we all consider what our country is going through and give back to our own community. I am so proud of Lt. Governor Bauer and his office for using their platform as leaders to reach their constituency.”

The first distribution of 1,000 pairs of shoes will take place on June 13th . Fort Mill/Tega Cay, Clover/Lake Wylie, York and Rock Hill have been selected as the first four locations, where 500 pairs will be distributed.

About Samaritan's Feet
There are over 300 million children who go without shoes every day.  It's their only mode of transportation.  That's why Samaritan's Feet (www.samaritansfeet.org) was started. Samaritan's Feet is a humanitarian relief organization based in Charlotte, NC that puts shoes on the feet of children all around the world.  Our goal is to provide-10 million pairs of shoes for 10 million impoverished people in 10 years.  To date, nearly one million pairs of shoes for children around the world have been collected.

Samaritan’s Feet was started in 2003 by President and Founder, Manny Ohonme.  Manny received his first pair of shoes at the age of 9 from a missionary.  He started playing basketball and other sports with this new pair of shoes.  He earned a spot on a traveling basketball team and eventually his high school team.  Upon graduating high school, he was offered a scholarship to play basketball at University of North Dakota (Lake Region). He later received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees and pursued a career in supply chain and software marketing.
