The mission of Gene Smart Compassion is to create sustainable solutions to address the needs of malnourished and impoverished children around the world. Gene Smart Compassion is creating new approaches to empower orphans and other vulnerable children to reach their full potential and contribute to a strong future for Africa. Their focus is twofold. First, they have helped to establish a new model for a sustainable community of orphans that brings organizations and individuals in America together for the common goal of making a lasting difference in the lives of children by "adopting" an orphan family in Africa. This model is Heroes Helping Heroes. Secondly, they are pioneering a new approach to address childhood malnutrition that utilizes the latest understanding of the relationship between what we eat, our genes, and our health. This approach utilizes the development of a therapeutic food known as Little Heroes.

And everywhere this man moved he was accompanied by children and laughter. Our 30 hour trip was followed by a six hour school bus ride to our location. Following a few hours of sleep, we were up the next morning with breakfast and a devotion from this big man with the big smile. At devotion, he promised us that were about to be “messed up.” I remember looking at him as if he were crazy, thinking you don’t know me…I am a world class scientist…a former professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine…publisher of three books…I have seen everything…”
